You can reach Wilson Lake (and, if desired, Snowshoe Lake on the Bird River system) by starting at Davidson Lake. Refer to the map.

Portage #1: To Reynar Lake

The portage goes steeply up a road embankment for a short distance until it reaches the road. Follow the road east to a small bay in Reynar.

Portages A and B: Alternate way to Reynar

Paddle to the east end of Davidson until you reach a short stretch of very narrow creek to Perch Lake. The portage is 10 metres. Paddle eastward on Perch Lake to a small north-lying inset. The portage begins on a grassy flat. It goes to the road. Portage east along the road until you reach a bay in Reynar.

Portage series #2, 3, 4: To Bain Lake

There is a series of short portages (along with two small pond lakes) to a south facing inlet in Bain. Portage #4 follows the tiny creek that drains the second pond. In high water years, the trail and the creek can become one.

Portage series #5, 6, 7, 8: To Wilson Lake

There is a series of short portages (along with three small pond lakes) to a south facing bay in Wilson. Portage #5 is about 250 metres and an easy walk. Portage #6 usually involves dragging/lifting the canoe a short distance through the water connection between two ponds. Portage #8 crosses mostly rock shelf areas. Look for piled rocks to guide your way. Finding camping spots in Wilson is not easy. The area was burned a few years ago.

Portages #9 and #10: Towards Snowshoe Lake

Portage #9 is the longest portage of the portages between Davidson and Snowshoe lakes. It is about 350 metres and goes through a boggy area. It takes you to a lake whose waters eventually drain into Snowshoe Lake (Bird River system). The larger island just south of portage #10 is a good place to camp. Portage #10 is downhill alongside a creek. It is an easy walk.
